Learn How STEAM is used to create a tv show!

In Full STEAM Ahead, Checkers the Inventor takes students on a high-energy, personal journey through the world of STEAM — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Unlike a traditional science show, this performance is rooted in Checkers’ real-life experiences as the creator and star of a nationally distributed educational TV series.

Students will discover how Checkers used STEAM skills to bring The Reading Road Trip to life:

  • Studying and visiting animals, oceans, and scientists to create authentic educational episodes

  • Using 3D printing to design real props and inventions for the show

  • Applying engineering to build sets and solve design problems

  • Mastering camera tricks, green screen keying, and perspective to create dynamic visuals

  • Writing and planning content that requires logic, structure, and creativity

Full STEAM Ahead! shows students that STEAM is not just something you learn in school — it's a gateway to adventure, creativity, and meaningful work. With energy, humor, and hands-on examples, Checkers motivates students to explore their own passions and imagine how STEAM can shape their future.

Learning Objectives:

Students will understand how STEAM subjects connect to real-world careers, creative pursuits, and problem-solving in everyday life. They'll leave with a sense of empowerment — recognizing that curiosity and hard work can lead to exciting outcomes in any field.

As part of this program, every school that books Full STEAM Ahead! receives access to follow-up activities, educational materials, and bonus content designed to reinforce key STEAM concepts long after the performance ends.

"In my 16 Years of being a principal it truly was on of the most remarkable programs we've had here at our school. We were completely thrilled with it and more importantly our kids were completely thrilled with it"
